Four injured as terrorists attack Peshawar Agriculture Directorate

At least four people have sustained severe injuries as some unidentified armed men on Friday opened firing at the Agriculture Directorate located in front of Peshawar University.
The police and army are on site and an operation to clear the area and neutralise the terrorists is under way.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Tahir Khan is said to be leading the operation.
The exchange of firing between the attackers and the law enforcement personnel is under way. Intermittent gunfire and blasts can be heard from inside the premises.
Sources said a student hostel, which houses around 100 students, is also located inside.
Police said the University Road, the major artery of the city, has been closed down for traffic.
The injured, shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital located next door, include two students, the varsity’s guard as well as a member of the news media.
An emergency has been declared in the hospital. Hospital officials, however, have put the toll of injured at five.
‘We were sleeping when it started’
An eyewitness told he and his colleagues were sleeping when the firing started, around 8:15am.
The eyewitness, a student, said he and his colleagues ran as fast as they could but two of their colleagues were injured in the firing.
“We took them out with us and admitted them to the hospital,” said Ariful Haq, adding that around 120 students live in the hostel but most had gone home due to the long weekend.
Second attack in a week
Last Friday, senior police official Mohammad Ashraf Noor was martyred in a suicide attack in the Hayatabad area of the city.
Additional IG Headquarters Ashraf Noor was en route to work when a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle rammed into his vehicle near Tatara Park.
Students in the line of fire
On December 16, 2014, 147 people, including 132 schoolchildren, were massacred in one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country’s history when terrorists stormed the Army Public School in Peshawar Cantonment and opened indiscriminate fire.
Later, on January 20, 2016, 21 students and staff members of Bacha Khan University in Charsadda were martyred after terrorists stormed the university and opened fire.
