PTI defers fresh secretary general appointment until verdict on review plea

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has deferred decision on Saturday to appoint a fresh secretary general until verdict on review petition over Jahangir Tareen s disqualification is delivered however his resignation was approved today by party chief Imran Khan.
Core body of the party convened a meeting today to review the prevailing situation of the political front.
During the meeting, resignation tendered by Tareen as secretary general of PTI was approved by Imran Khan after he was disqualified as a Member of National Assembly (MNA) in a corruption probe on Friday.
According to the notification of the meeting issued, the party deems Tareen’s decision to resign a dignified act and that there is no comparison to be made of Tareen with ‘godfather’ and corrupt ‘Sicilian mafia’.
The party has criticised the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by pointing out that the Constitution of Pakistan was amended to re-elect disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the president of the party.
Finance minister Ishaq Dar is not willing to tender his resignation despite being declared a proclaimed offender in an assets beyond means case, the notification reads.
The party has stated that it welcomes order of the top court to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to probe means of funding of political parties of Pakistan besides PTI.
The resignation
“Unfortunately, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has disqualified me on an interpretation of a legal term. It is disappointing that the country’s highest tax paying Parliamentarian stands disqualified on a flimsy technical ground, but since the highest court of Pakistan has concluded that I am not qualified to continue as a member of assembly I bow my head in compliance of that order,” Jahangir Tareen stated in his resignation letter submitted to PTI chairman Imran Khan.
He further remarked: “I have spent all my life on principles and moral values and I feel that morally it is not justified for me to continue as Secretary General fo PTI.”
Tareen said he will always remain available to PTI as political worker in the fight against the political status quo and towards building a “Naya Pakistan”.
In his message posted on Twitter, Tareen hoped to see Imran Khan as Pakistan’s next prime minister.
