Govt Trying To Improve Quality of Petroleum Products: PM

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Friday that our need of gasoline is increasing by 20 percent every year, while the demand for diesel is increasing by 12 percent annually.
The PM was addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the White Oil Pipeline Motor Gasoline project.
He said that our need for fuel is increasing every year.
The premier said that the project costing 15 billion rupees will be completed within 20 months, expressing hope that the completion will be timely.
He said that the project is of sensitive nature, adding that by road transportation of fuel is often dangerous. Abbasi gave example of the Bahawalpur oil tanker tragedy, which claimed around 200 people earlier this year.
“Worldwide transportation of fuel takes place through pipelines,” said Abbasi.
The prime minister said that the government is trying to improve the quality of petroleum products with time in Pakistan.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi laid the foundation stone of White Oil Pipeline project at Port Qasim in Karachi on Friday, today.
The pipeline takes diesel to central regions of Pakistan, which account for almost 60% of total petroleum consumption in the country.
Another source of oil transportation from Karachi to the upcountry is tank lorries, but it is plagued with incidents of theft. Estimates suggest $200 million worth of oil is stolen every year in connivance with lorry drivers.
The white oil pipeline will not only protect environment, but it will also be a safe source of fuel supply.
The pipeline project is being launched to ensure faster supply of oil for better efficiency of industrial and agricultural sectors.
