BAFTAs 2019: Roma, The Favourite winners

Best film was won by Roma, while The Favourite picked up seven awards including outstanding British film and lead actress.

For the first time this year the BAFTA film awards has made it mandatory for films competing in two categories –
outstanding British film and outstanding debut – to comply with two out of four of the British Film Institute’s diversity standards.Marking that commitment to diversity, a non-English language film won best picture – and a film predominantly featuring women took home more awards than any others.
Alfonso Cuaron’s semi-autobiographical story of his own upbringing in Mexico City, follows the life of a live-in housekeeper of a middle-class family.
The Favourite is a period drama set in the court of Queen Anne, examining the battle between two cousins attempting to win her favour.Olivia Colman portrayed Queen Anne in a widely applauded performance that won her a BAFTAs for best leading actress.
